Inspiration
The Helvetica model draws its extremely linear shape from the Helvetica font, designed in 1957 by the designer Max Miedinger in Switzerland as a reinterpretation of the Akzidenz-Grotesk (1896). Helvetica is an extremely versatile and neutral font, objectively beautiful, and starting from the sixties it became widely used in the western world, so much so that it soon became the preferred font of most designers.
Description
Biocetate: The frame is in Mazzucchelli M49 bioacetate, 100% recyclable and biodegradable, without chemical agglomerates to avoid allergic reactions and its natural origin is also revealed to the touch with a pleasant “warm and silky effect”.
Front frame: The design of the front follows the guidelines of the font, always developing vertically or horizontally, but never diagonally. The proportion between vertical and horizontal lines and the rays of curvature are taken from the design of the characters that inspire it. The result is a linear, clean, elegant and versatile eyewear and its essentiality allows it to be adapted to various face shapes.
Temples: “sail” model, takes its name from the shape that resembles a rudder bar. The perforated “o” taken from the Good’s logo is reproduced at the end.
Anima (core): Visible from the outside thanks to the transparency of the acetates and made to an exclusive Good’s design, it reproduces an inscription in relief – Good’s payoff “the right way to look at things” – developed from right to left, like the lead lines produced from the ancient Linotype printing machine, invented in 1886, and defined by Thomas Edison as “the eighth wonder of the world”.
Curiosity
In 2007, during the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its invention, the font was featured in a documentary entitled Helvetica and directed by Gary Hustwit. In the same year, an exhibition, 50 Years of Helvetica, was dedicated to him at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Massimo Vignelli was interviewed for the documentary and explained “There are people who think that character should be expressive. They have a different point of view than mine.”
